The existing expensive glass prism in a digital fingerprint reader had to be replaced in order to reduce costs and win an important negotiation. The prism was thus developed in plastic and the pilot mould in aluminum. Two samples where available in only two weeks. The successive development of the mould with a double steel cavity and the production of the first lot was obtained in 5 weeks. The prism was developed in PMMA and satisfied perfectly all the fingerprint detection requirements.
