Automaker heats up RFID tags

The automaker wanted to move from a manufacturing lot size of 60 to a lot size of 1. They could not do this reliably with their present method of "sequencing” or “tracking” parts through the paint oven process. They were using a large metal barcode or “Smart Eye” System that was physically hung inside the window of each car. It was consistently getting bent and would get paint build up and provide the wrong data (mis-reads) when read. It was also a chip and scratch hazard to the body of the car. At over 400° Fahrenheit the RFID survived the heat and provided the necessary solution.
