In chocolate packaging applications, sensors have task to detect the chocolate. The task becomes difficult as there are many different types of chocolate (white, milk, bittersweet hazelnut, etc). These diversities have different surface colors and different reflections and at time they may not be packaged separately. Consequently, the application required a sensor able to detect all the different chocolate types without needing adjustment at each format change. Moreover, the sensor has to function from the top as the conveyor has a white background. A background suppression sensor represented the ideal solution also thanks to the small space available. The sensor had to be adjusted in such a manner to avoid to pass by the conveyor and so enabling a reliable detection of all moving chocolate types.
