Tobacco companies receive tobacco leaves in bulk that are then specially treated, cut, dried and packed in cans or bundles and they are then packed in different transportation packages. The content of the blank boxes must be identified after they leave the case packers through an ink-jet printed 1D bar code. The ink quantity may vary as the boxes will not be printed at the same distance and may bleed and so the codes may cause blotchy stripes. The print heads may also get polluted due to the dusty environment, jeopardizing reading results. The code is the only identification element of the box and so it becomes fundamental for perfect reading. A camera can replace about 25 scanners and can read everything giving a visual reading feedback, also in noisy environments and dirty print heads.
